Additional

Incorporated in 1952 in CA – Founded by Howard F. Ahmanson and his wife Dorothy. The late Mr. Ahmanson, was a financier who established H.F. Ahmanson & Co., an insurance company that soon became the foremost fire insurance underwriter in California. Eventually, he expanded and built upon his initial financial success culminating in the creation of Home Savings of America — for many years the nation’s largest savings and loan association. By 1972, the foundation began to receive the designated proceeds of Howard Ahmanson’s estate, along with additional contributions from William H. Ahmanson, Robert H. Ahmanson and Dorothy Grannis Sullivan, significantly increasing the foundation’s corpus, and commensurately, the volume and scope of its grantmaking.
