NextGen Grantmakers Initiative: Launched to engage Black and Brown youth in philanthropy, this program empowers young people to make funding decisions for community projects. In its inaugural funding round, $50,000 was allocated to three Newark-based nonprofits.
Youth-Led Grantmaking: Through this initiative, the foundation supports youth in identifying community needs and directing grants to address them, fostering leadership and civic engagement among young residents.
Civic Engagement Partnerships: Collaborating with the Newark Board of Education, the foundation promotes student participation in local governance, including initiatives like encouraging student involvement in school board elections.
History shows that 24% of their giving goes to Community Development, almost 22% goes to support Education and 22% goes to Social & Human Services category.
Grants in recent years include:
$400,000 for New Community Corporation;
$350,000 for Community Foundation of New Jersey;
$250,000 for Ironbound Community Corporation;
$220,000 for St. Vincents Academy;
$120,000 for St. Benedict’s Preparatory School;
$600,000 for Newark Community St. Team; and
$300,000 for La Casa De Don Pedro.
