Civic & Culture: Supporting the region’s civic and cultural vitality believing that is a key component for a healthy, livable community. Within the civic arena, priority is placed on projects that reinforce civic pride amongst residents, improve livability for residents, promote Baltimore as a strong and vibrant city, and help attract tourism to Baltimore.
Community & Economic Development: Supporting workforce development efforts that expand training and skill development for low-income, underemployed and unemployed workers.
Education: Supports projects directed toward improving educational quality and equity in Baltimore City with the understanding that education is a prerequisite to a strong civil society and an employed workforce – two keys to a better Baltimore.
Environment: Supporting organizations that are involved in preserving and protecting the waters and natural areas in the State of Maryland.
Health & Human Services: Supports anchor health institutions in improving neighborhoods around their hospital with dual health and community development benefits.
Historic Preservation: Hopes that future generations experience and discover their own connections to these historical places through innovative and engaging preservation and education efforts.
History shows that 35% of their giving goes to support Education, 14% goes to Arts & Culture and 12% goes to the Social & Human Services category.
Grants in recent years include:

$500,000 for American Visionary Art Museum;
$100,000 for Baltimore Museum of Art
$125,000 for Everyman Theatre;
$410,240 for United Way – Maryland;

$100,000 for Motor House.
France-Merrick Foundation concentrates its grant-making within the State of Maryland and primarily within the Greater Baltimore area. Applicants must be a non-profit organization holding 501 (C) (3) status under the Internal Revenue Code.
