Summary

The foundation’s primary interest is in the piloting or expansion of new, innovative programs of organizations operating in New York, NY, and its more urbanized surrounding areas in northeastern NJ. The fund has a particular interest in programs serving young people and on institutions serving economically and socially disadvantaged populations. Funding interests include education, especially programs that serve public school children from disadvantaged backgrounds, social welfare concerns, which focus on programs addressing issues including child abuse, parent education, juvenile delinquency, teenage pregnancy, youth employment and job training. Also focuses on education- a focus on efforts to reform the public education system or programs that serve public school children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Proposals received by fax or e-mail not accepted. Application form not required. Applicants should submit the following:
1. How project will be sustained once grantmaker support is completed
2. Results expected from proposed grant
3. Population served
4. Copy of most recent annual report/audited financial statement/990
5. How project’s results will be evaluated or measured
6. Detailed description of project and amount of funding requested
7. Copy of current year’s organizational budget and/or project budget
8. Listing of additional sources and amount of support
Initial approach: Proposal, preferably no more than 7 pages. No more than 10 pages for those organizations submitting two requests

Final notification: 10 days following board meeting
Additional information: The Cummings Fund will consider up to two different grant requests at any given time from one applicant organization. Proposals should be paginated, then clipped or stapled together, not permanently bound.
