Additional

Type of Grantmaker: Independent foundation
Incorporated in 1945 in TX – After Amon G. Carter’s death in 1955, the foundation received the major portion of his estate. One significant aspect of his will was the desire to provide the public an opportunity to enjoy his art collection. Accordingly, in 1961 the Amon Carter Museum opened its doors in what is now the cultural district of Fort Worth. Mr. Carter’s collection of painting and sculpture by Frederic Remington and Charles Russell is displayed along with significant works by other American artists. The foundation’s Board of Directors dedicates one-half of the annual grant budget to Museum operations, capital improvements, and additions to the permanent collection.
